About GRA

Advancing research that shapes tomorrow.

The Global Research Association is a US-based non-profit with a field office in Cameroon. We exist to make high-quality, ethical research more collaborative, more accessible and more useful to the communities it aims to serve.

Our brief history

From a network to an institution.

The Global Research Association (GRA) is a distinguished non-governmental, apolitical and not-for-profit organization headquartered in the United States, with a dedicated field office in Cameroon. Registered as a 501(c) organization (EIN 99-3606082), GRA operates across two continents to bridge research communities that too rarely talk to each other.

GRA started by rallying research candidates, university professors and research-minded groups around a simple idea: that African and diaspora researchers deserve the same access to funding, mentorship and international collaboration as any other research community. Through global initiatives, the association strives to drive impactful research, promote knowledge exchange and support innovative solutions across diverse disciplines.

Today, GRA convenes researchers, connects them with donors and institutions, and provides advisory support at every stage of the research lifecycle — from framing a question to publishing findings and translating them into policy.

Our mission

Knowledge sharing, collaboration, excellence.

The mission of GRA is to facilitate knowledge sharing, foster collaboration and promote excellence in research practices worldwide. We are committed to providing researchers with the tools, resources and support they need to conduct high-quality research that contributes meaningfully to their fields and to society as a whole. In practice, that means running grant advisory clinics, brokering donor–researcher partnerships, hosting conferences, and building the mentorship pipelines that let the next generation of researchers thrive.

Our vision

Ethical, transparent, collaborative.

A world where research is conducted ethically, transparently and collaboratively to drive positive change and innovation across all disciplines — where researchers from diverse backgrounds come together to address complex societal challenges through rigorous and impactful research, and where the findings that result reach the communities, policy makers and institutions that need them most.

Our values

The principles that guide our work.

Integrity

We uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency and accountability in every research process we support.

Collaboration

We believe the biggest problems are solved when researchers, institutions, communities and donors work together across borders.

Excellence

We champion methodological rigor, peer review and reproducibility as the foundation of credible research.

Equity

We invest in early-career researchers, under-represented voices and community-led inquiry — especially across Africa.

Impact

We measure success by real-world outcomes: better policy, stronger institutions, healthier communities.

Openness

We advocate for open data, open access and knowledge that circulates freely to those who need it.

How we work

A repeatable model for turning questions into impact.

01

Identify

We work with communities, institutions and partners to identify pressing questions worth answering.

02

Convene

We assemble multi-disciplinary teams — researchers, practitioners, donors — around shared, solution-oriented goals.

03

Fund & advise

We connect projects to grant opportunities and guide teams through proposal, ethics and reporting requirements.

04

Translate

We turn findings into briefings, publications and public conversations that reach the people who can act on them.
